PROCESS PAPER

          I chose the topic of the Space Race. I decided to do this topic because I am interested in space and space travel. I’ve visited the Kennedy Space Center with my family. And I’ve slept under the Saturn V rocket. I was amazed at how huge it was. I was curious about the U.S. Space Program.

          When I was conducting my research, I went to libraries, searched on websites about my topic, and I asked people what they remember of the “Space Race” either by interview or E-Mail. I will be using the timeline to help me organize the website I will be creating.

           Since my topic is on the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union. I picked those events that in which the U.S. and U.S.S.R. competed head-to-head. For example: Orbiting the first satellite and putting the first man in space. Once this was done it was a matter of getting the information, graphics, and links on my website.

           My topic: The Space Race, How the U.S. Went From #2 to #1 in 12 Years. After the shock of the launch of Sputnik in 1957, the American public demanded change. After WWII the United States was the most powerful nation in the world. We did not like being second. Changes were made in education. More emphasis was put on science and math. NASA was created to get the U.S. back to #1.
